The streets of gennevilliers

In our effort to inform gennevillois, youth and newcomers in the city, the Tourist Office is committed to implement all means to achieve it. We will over the months adduce through this tab to allow everyone to better understand the history of our city. These texts are a summary of the book "Street of resistance" Patrick FREEDOM.

GENNEVILLIERS THE STREETS IN MEMORY OF WAR HEROES

AGUADO Henri 1907-1942

Married and father of a child he was the first director of the Home for All in 1935, he joined active militant resistance in 1939 he was arrested on March 10, 1941. Sentenced to 5 years hard labor it is designated as a hostage and executed May 14, 1942 with another gennevillois Joseph Le Clainche. He rests in the cemetery of Gennevilliers.

The Aguado Street is located in the village area between the Place Jean Grandel and the Rue Jean Jaurès.

ALBAN Charles 1902-1942

Married with four children he was elected to the City Council 1934. Demobilized in 1940, he will be very active until his arrest October 5, 1940 for belonging to the Communist Party will be part of the damned convoy of 6 July 1942 to Auschwitz.

The Charles Alban Street is between the street and Louis Julien Mocquard Calmel street in the neighborhood of Agnettes.

AUBRUN Raymond 1902-1945

Married and father of a child, occupation boilermaker union activist will be the Executive Committee of the Federation of metals. On 6 July 1941 he was arrested by the French police in Levallois that the torture in their police station. Victim numerous fractures all over his body he was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Worker forced into an underground factory Gusen II he died of exhaustion in the arms of one of his companions in misery.

The city of the same name is located between Avenue of the Republic and the Gabriel Péri avenue next to the eco-district.

EER Fernand 1922-1942

Single and worker at the Astra factory activist in the Communist Party and member of the FSGT it is very good footballer he was arrested on 1 January 1941, it will be part of the damned convoy of 6 July 1942 to Auschwitz. He died in the camp of deprivation and beatings.

A city of the "Village" bears his name between Felicia and Timbaud streets.

BURGUNDY André 1907-1966

Born in 1907 in Gennevilliers council employee he joined the party communism in 1936.
During the war he printed leaflets overnight and distributes. After the arrest of many comrades he continues to pursue his activism. He was arrested by the police and despite the blows, hunger and cold it will not betray his comrades, will be brave and will not talk. Deported to Germany it will go through the Mauthausen camp, Nordhausen, Birkenau, Auschwitz and Dora. It succumb suites deportation March 24, 1966.

A street named after him in the Chevrins district between Eugenie Street and the street Nollées.

CALMEL Louis 1907-1943

Married father of four children he had the passion of sport and held an important position in the summer camps and municipal patronage. Boxer good level it could have been a top athlete. In 1939 after being mobilized for 3 months he was released but can not exercise his municipal duties because of the ban imposed by Daladier. Adopted on 4 December 1940 edition of leaflets will be sentenced to 6 months in prison in Fresnes. On 6 June 1941 he joined the FTP. During 18 months protects the Left Bank Group. He was arrested again and detained at Fort Romainville. On 2 October 1943 he was shot at Mont Valerien.

Louis Calmel street is between the street Jean Jaurès and Boulevard Pierre De Coubertin.

CARTIER Camille 1888-1945

Born January 31, 1888 a daughter she lived in the Avenue de Paris in Gennevilliers she joined the resistance in 1940 arrested 19 February 1941 with other comrades resistant gennevillois will be deported to Ravensbruck April 5, 1944 and murdered in the gas chamber 28 February 1945.

Aujoud'hui a nursing home "Camille Cartier" enables our alumni to relax and enjoy life.

CASTEL Louis 1902-1942

Married without children, a professional gardener, he was elected deputy mayor in 1934 and campaigned alongside Jean Grandel and will prove an excellent communal administrator. In October 1940 he went underground. Arrested Dec. 3, 1940 it will be part of the damned convoy of 6 July 1942 to Auschwitz. He died September 15, 1942 of deprivation and beatings.

In the district Grésillons Louis Castel street is located between the street and avenue Henri Barbusse Grésillons.

Corete Georges 1900-1963

Trade union activist he quickly joined the resistance to the clandestine fight. Arrested and transferred to the Mauthausen camp in 1944 it served as human guinea pigs for alleged Nazi medical experiments. He died of his deportation. It was he who collected the last words of his friend Raymond Aubrun.

In Grésillons district Georges Jew's mallow street is between the streets and Paul Vaillant Couturier Avenue Grésillons.

GALLOT Renée-Sophie Eugenie 1892-1944

Seamstress Renee, born on21 August 1892, devoted himself to social works and childhood and was named instructor since 1935 in camps Gennevilliers. In 1940 she joined the resistance. Arrested October 27, 1941 it will be confined to Roquette and then in other jails. Sick it will be transported to the hospital of Tours and that of Bichat. She died March 29, 1944.

A street named after him in the Grésillons district between Avenue Grésillons and the street of the square.

GRANDEL Jean 1891-1941

Married, 2 children, he joined the CGT and Communism Party in 1921. Senior Clerk PTT in 1918, he was appointed secretary of the Federation Post in June 1930. He was elected councilor of Gennevilliers / Villeneuve in 1934, then mayor Gennevilliers 21 October 1934 when the communist majority in left list will accomplish the creation of activities and places in the direction of the working population.

Stripped of this mandate October 5, 1939 he goes into hiding and will be arrested at home by police Pétain 31 July 1940. Jean Grandel was shot October 22, 1941 in Chateaubriant career with 26 comrades on the order of Pucheu .

GUY Maurice 1900-1942

Married and father of a child, Maurice is toolmaker adjuster elected in the city council from 1934 to 1939 where he worked extensively in the development of social work in our city. In 1940 he joined the resistance and was arrested on 5 October 1940. It will be part of the damned convoy of 6 July 1942 to Auschwitz, where he was murdered in the gas chamber.

Today the football stadium of the city bears his name.

GRAINDORGE Pierre 1903-1942

Married father of two children, profession fitter-toolmaker he lived all workers' struggles. He joined the clandestine struggle and later FTP He was arrested October 5, 1940 and will be part of the damned convoy of 6 July 1942 to Auschwitz, where he was assassinated August 15, 1942.

The street that bears his name is the village between Felicia and Timbaud streets.

KOVAC François 1903-1943

Married, 4 children, arrested on 24 December 1941 following a battle with German soldiers who importuned a woman, he will be deported October 17, 1942 to Auschwitz, where he died of deprivation and beatings.

In the district Grésillons Francis Kovac Street runs along the Jaffeux up between Rue Paul Vaillant Couturier and Avenue Grésillons.

LABUXIERE André 1922-1943

Printer typographer childless married from 1940 to 1941 will be liaison youths groups of Asnieres, Colombes and Gennevilliers. Arrested twice, on September 1, 1940 and June 27, 1941, he was deported to Germany to Auschwitz, where he died of deprivation and beatings, weakening and weight loss by keeping a moral issue.

André Labuxière street is the street Agnettes between Chateaubriant and Julien Mocquard.

LAMOUR Marcel 1902-1970

Married and a child Marcel was elected alderman in 1934 in the team of Jean Grandel. Technician at Alsthom he goes into hiding because he is wanted by the police. In meeting with Raymond Colin at Jean Grandel traction police passes the house of John. Marcel Grandel asked to leave his home he refuses. Marcel Raymond and out through the back garden that gives the street Chevrins. Grandel despite his term councilor of the Seine will be arrested by the French police, Marcel will remain very strong and it will be stopped in with metro after a speaking at Renault to prevent workers from compulsory labor. Deported January 23, 1943 in the Sachsenhausen camp. He was released after terrible sufferings in May 1945. From 1945 to 1947 will attached to the office of the Minister of Labor Ambroise Croizat where he will be the main editor of the Law establishing the Social Security, the pension scheme, the works councils, collective agreements, occupational medicine, overtime regulations. Marcel Lamourl will die October 13, 1970.

A street named after him in the neighborhood Agnettes part of the Gabriel Péri avenue and joins the Avenue de la Liberation.

LAROSE Jules 1903-1944

Born in Gennevillliers father of 3 children, turner at P-Park in Gennevilliers, he joined the ranks of the FTP in September 1943. His name is Florent resistance in the Alsace Lorraine group active and courageous fighter, he will be arrested January 15, 1944 after the shot with his gun. On 2 June 1944 he falls head high under the Nazi bullets at Mont Valerien.

The street is in the Village area between the Camélinat Boulevard and Avenue Laurent Cély.

THE CLAINCHE Joseph-Marie 1903-1942

Married, municipal employee, he joined the clandestine struggle in 1940. Militant active distributes leaflets and stopped May 1, 1941. Appointed as a hostage will be shot with Henri Aguado LE14 May 1942 in Caen.

JM Leclainche street is located in the district of Chevrins between rue Jean Jaurés and the Rue Richelieu.

Henri LE GALL 1907-1942

Born in 1907, married a union delegate and gas child in Clichy. He joined the clandestine struggle in 1940. Arrested June 24, 1941 and interned in Compiègne camp, he managed to escape with 18 other comrades 21 June 1942. Taken shortly after he was shot August 11, 1942 at Mt. Valerian.

Today in our city an avenue named after this brave and determined man between the Place Jean Grandel and Villebois-Mareuil street.

MASSELIER Julian 1895-1944

Born in 1895 he was arrested at the beginning of the occupation by distributing leaflets he is imprisoned in the fortress of Sisteron. In May 1944 the resistance decides to attack the fortress to free the prisoners interned under the command of Colonel Granville Louis nom de guerre Blésy child residing at Gennevilliers 74 rue Paul Vaillant Couturier in the neighborhood Grésillons. Towards the end of fighting Julien is ready to go out with his friends when he is hit by German bullets.

The street that bears his name is in the Grésillons district between Avenue Grésillons and rue Paul Vaillant Couturier.

Jean MOULIN 1899-1943

Born in 1899 it bears the name Max in resistance. In 1939 he was appointed prefect of Eure et Loire. Remained at his post in June 1940. Arrested and tortured for not signing a false document German command he cuts his throat with a piece of glass. Transported to the hospital he will be saved and since he always wear a scarf to hide his injury. Dismissed by Petain he joined the resistance. He joined London via Spain and Portugal. After his report on the situation of the French Resistance to de Gaulle will be parachuted into France south 31 December 1941. He was arrested June 21, 1943 by Barbie disaster. Affreusemnt tortured there anything unveil the dark secrets he was the only one to know. He died of his injuries on July 8, 1943. He is buried in the Pantheon since 1965.

Rue Jean Moulin is located in the village between the streets Timbaud and Felicie.

MUSLER Henri 1884-1944

Married and father of a child he was a mechanic boss, chairman of the local committee of release, it will be Deputy Mayor of Waldeck L'Huillier in September 1944 unfortunately will die in 1945.
The Henri Musler Street is located between the streets and Louis Julien Mocquard Calmel in the neighborhood of Agnettes.

PAUL Marcel 1900-1982

Born in 1900 children in public care, electrician he became secretary of the federation CGTU lighting and driving force from 1923 to 1928, then Secretary General in 1931. He was elected municipal councilor of Paris and general counsel of the Seine in 1935. in 1940 he was captured and escaped to join the resistance in July 1940. in 1941 the constitution ilparticipe future FTPF arrested November 13, 1941 by the Vichy police and deported to Auschwitz 27 April 1944 and Buchenwald where it will become illegal in charge of detainees French resistance.

In 1945 with the peace it will become minister of industrial production until December 1946. He was elected MP for the Haute Vienne in 1946. He died November 11, 1982.

PERI Gabriel 1902-1941

He was born February 9, 1902 in Toulon Peri's involvement in politics is very early. It adheres to the Socialist Youth in 1917 when he was only fifteen. Three years later, he became the regional secretary of the Communist Youth. In June 1922, he was then twenty years old, Gabriel Péri is associated with the Communist Party, the Steering Committee. Peri is one of those who implement successfully the Popular Front policy. At thirty Gabriel Péri becomes deputy, after a type of election "popular front" before the letter. It is one of twelve elected communists, where you notice the names of Maurice Thorez 32, also elected for the first fois.Ayant luckily escaped arrest, he was tried and sentenced in absentia to five years prison during the trial of 44. He then went underground. Thus, throughout the phoney war, it is one of the frames of the team responsible for writing illegal Humanity. Peri is also one of the few leaders of the clandestine Communist Party to remain in the capital even as the Wehrmacht passes under the Arc de Triomphe and oppose vehemently attempts to negotiate with the German occupiers. On 18 May 1941 at 20 h 15, Gabriel stopped "under circumstances that remain mysterious Peri is therefore part of the 92 hostages shot December 15, 1941 at Mont Valerien.
Resistance hero, numerous pathways or places have been named in his honor.

A gennevilliers the avenue that bears his name from the subway station Gabriel Péri to reach the Rue Jean Jaurés.

Sevi René 1912-1943

Teacher married with 3 children, it will be arrested on 29 November 1939 and will succeed to escape in June 1940. He was involved in hiding and will be jailed again 27 August 1942 and deported to Auschwitz 11 April 1943 to be assassinated in the gas chamber 3 August 1943.

Today a square bearing his name and perpetuates his memory.

TENAILLE Théophile-Gilbert 1906-1942

Born in 1906 married without children is a machinist in the future TCRP RATP city councilor from 1934 to 1939. It is unfortunately arrété October 5, 1940 and will be led by the cursed convoy July 6, 1942 to Auschwitz. Led by the SS to the gas chamber he will fight with them and manage to kill one. Shot on the spot his body will still be taken to the gas chamber.

A public housing Grésillons bears his name.

THORETTON Georges 1915-1941

Born in 1915 he was wounded in 1940 in the war. Refurbished he takes an active part in his party. Screeching halt on January 20 1941. He was shot tied to a tree with 8 of his comrades in The Blisière 15 December 1941. On the same day will be shot Gabriel Péri and Lucien Sampaix.

A street named after him in the Sevines district between Henri Barbusse Street and Avenue Gabriel Péri.

TIMBAUD Jean-Pierre 1904-1941

Born in 1904 with a daughter he confronts at a young age to harsh difficulties of life. In 1935 he was the director of the colony in Gennevilliers "Castle of Happiness" in Granville. In 1940 he joined the resistance has stopped 18 October 1940. It will be shot with Jean Grandel among 27 hostages in Chateaubriant Career October 22, 1941.

Today a street named after him in the neighborhood of the village between Lucien Lanternier Avenue and the roundabout Timbaud.

TOULGOAT Eugène 1894-1945

Trade union activist at Carbone Lorraine, born in 1894, is a very active militant who was arrested Feb. 21, 1941, deported to Germany February 28, 1944 towards Mauthausen where he met his friend George corete. He died January 16, 1945.

The Eugène Toulgoat street is Chevrins In between streets Couture Auxerre and Arthur Rimbaud.
